Stages of Mathematics Olympiad
Stage 1: Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad (PRMO)
The PRMO (Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad) is the Olympiad’s first stage test. Those that qualify in PRMO advance to the Mathematical Olympiad’s next phase. The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) has been chosen as the exam coordinator by the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM). The PRMO test will be organised under the supervision of the MTA (Mathematics Teachers’ Association). NBHM is in charge of the mathematics olympiad events.
Stage 2: Regional Maths Olympiad (RMO)
The Regional Maths Olympiad is the second level of India’s mathematical talent hunt test. A Regional Coordinator administers the RMO test, which is governed by the Mumbai-based Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE). The assessment of the answer sheets is the responsibility of the regional coordinator. After reviewing the students’ responses, the results are transmitted to HBCSE, where they are published online.
Stage 3: Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO )
The Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) is a maths competition that is held in India. In the HBCSE IMO, the INMO is the third level. The Indian National Olympiad is a well-known yearly mathematical competition for high school students held in India. The INMO test is the second phase in the selection process for the Indian team to compete in the International Mathematical Olympiad. The Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education administers the INMO test every year (HBCSE).
Stage 4: International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC)
In April and May, the top 35 INMO students will be invited to the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC), which will be held at HBCSE. Prioritisation is placed on the development of intellectual foundations and problem-solving abilities. Several selection examinations will be held during the camp. Based on their performance in these examinations, six individuals are chosen to represent India at the IMO. Resource persons from a range of colleges around the country attend the training sessions.
